Project mention: A Critical Analysis of the What3Words Geocoding Algorithm | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-09-02Pluscode is a trademark. The actual standard is called "open location code" and is unrestricted - https://github.com/google/open-location-code/

and from that background I want to know how the isMock property works to ensure that no one can bypass that logic, but unfortunately i couldn't find the logic for IOS, but for Android I found that ismocked comes from the java android.location.Location package with location.isMock(); or location.isFromMockProvider();
Project mention: AvaloniaUI: Create Multi-Platform Apps with .NET | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-03But I think some of this stuff is already handled in Avalonia ecosystem like https://github.com/Mapsui/Mapsui, https://github.com/beto-rodriguez/LiveCharts2 and few others...
spatie/geocoder: Geocode addresses to coordinates
Project mention: flutter map + mapbox static tiles | reduce API requests | /r/flutterhelp | 2023-06-26https://mapproxy.org/ is also worth a look. It caches the request to a mapping service, that way you could also reduce the expensive request to the map box api, if mapbox uses a standardized wms or tiling service map proxy should work.
Project mention: Warp10, OSS distributed time-series database for IoT | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-06
Looks nice but it's probably not really usable for navigation. I checked the Netherlands and Germany. You'd need more details for safely navigating on the water. But it definitely has potential.
There are also some other specialized open street map based maps for
- rails: https://www.openrailwaymap.org/
- cycling: https://www.opencyclemap.org/
- sea map (competes with this I guess, and is a bit more detailed for navigation): https://map.openseamap.org/
And probably loads of other ones.
Bonus: if something is missing, you can easily correct it yourself, e.g. with https://mapcomplete.org
