  • Project mention: μMon: Stupid simple monitoring | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-09-24

https://collectd.org/ does the gathering (and writing to RRDTool database, if you so desire) part very well. Many plugins, easy to add more (just return one line of text)

Still need RRD viewere but that's not a huge stack

And it scales all the way to hundreds of hosts, as on top of network send/receive of stats it supports few other write formats aside from just RRD files.

  • Project mention: Does anyone else find Gnome "System Monitor" not so pretty? I know this app is harder to re-write or convert to GTK4 compare to others like an image viewer etc. I appreciate the hard work put in to these apps. | /r/gnome | 2023-07-10

Not wanting to toot my own horn here, but I've been working on an alternative for quite some time now. It's still not finished yet but I think it's moderately usable. If you'd like to take a look: https://github.com/nokyan/resources :)
