Steam is easy, just install it and you’re fine. And enable steam proton of course. Steam comes preinstalled with Manjaro and installing it on PopOS and other Ubuntu based distros is just a simple sudo apt install steam. Epic Games on the other hand takes some time. For epic games look into legendary https://github.com/derrod/legendary. And personally whenever I install a new game I set it up to use proton (except I only play gta 5 so not much to do there) here’s what I followed to do that https://github.com/derrod/legendary/issues/76 And to save you on some researching STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH should be /home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata. You have to run a game with proton to get that folder.

    I personally never installed epic.

Check out https://github.com/derrod/legendary. If you do want the official launcher though, iirc Lutris has a package that works.

Here's what I went through to get it running with the latest wine staging. I wasn't able to get it to run with any Proton version I tested (5.13, Experimental, 5.21-GE, and 6.0-GE) but this worked even though it's a bit jank: https://github.com/derrod/legendary/wiki/Hitman-3-Guide

I used this guide, and used Proton-6.0-GE. I could have tried other versions as well, but considering that DX12 did work (the game displayed a "You're missing DX12!" message with vanilla wine) I just assumed it was a bug/missing code in Wine/VKD3D. Good luck if you decide to try though!

I've tried with no success so far. H2 ran with DX11/DXVK, but H3 only supports DX12 and using wine's VKD3D, launching the game with legendary causes a page fault when pressing "play" on the launcher or starting a benchmark.

For epic games, allow me to point you to Legendary
  • And I've never even bought a single game from them
You could use an alternative launcher like Legendary (CLI only, no graphical interface, yet), setup and install your game and then generate a one-line command that you can use as a shortcut to launch the game when double-clicking it (add the shortcut to Steam and you're done).
  • Epic Games says that i use an outdated Windows Version.
  • Don’t know if this has been done before, but don’t care.

OK so the EGS app is bad, but AFAICT if you use Legendary you don't need to opt in to the spyware (AFAIK).

You could always try out Legendary. It's an open source launcher for Epic Games. It's only CLI rn though, but it does work that last time I tried it
