What game is the prime example of "Great Idea but terrible execution" ?
Thrive is another spore inspired game... but expect a long development time. The steam version supports development but I think there is a free version on their website.

The video you posted shows this issue: https://github.com/Revolutionary-Games/Thrive/issues/3197 In fact I refer to that exact video in the issue when describing what seems likely to be the problem.

Does anyone know why this happens?
The later stages are included as prototypes. This is a known issue in the game incorrectly calculating the compounds needed to reproduce and as such the bars don't match with what actually happens: https://github.com/Revolutionary-Games/Thrive/issues/3908
