  VSCode has advanced beyond my most optimistic expectations, and it's extensions development support is likely the most attractive part of VSCode "user experience". So, I find very surprising that the very first example fails to start the Extension Development Host (as a result of pushing the F5 button). The only article I found that "almost explains it" is this created by Ben Awad (see this repository - but even Ben who felt capable of resolving this mystery tripped several times in his narration, so I remain confused about that is the problem.
