Yes, Timeshift is useful and works well. Or rather it works well except for some glaring interface problems, which are documented on the program's rather neglected and slightly hidden bugtracker.

That sounds like what I do with Timeshift though it creates images rather than text files. I run it every week. I have a multitude of images I can load in minutes.

A few parts of Timeshift's UI are in desperate need of overall. For instance, at one point the program gives the impression that it has hung when it has not. However, Timeshift's author seems mostly to ignore bug reports. That said, that appears to be the author's policy, sort of. For, he says here, on Mint's github, that the issue 'tracker is checked once a year when the app is being updated'. That tracker is, er, on a different github (namely, here). And apparently - according to Mint's github - 'If you use Linux Mint and need support for an issue please use the Linux Mint support forums'. This is all a bit of a mess, it seems to me.

I have been using btrfs for a few months now. Unfortunately it looks like I have run in to a few errors with the code. I am using ubuntu 20.10, kernel 5.8.0.50-generic with timeshift to keep snapshots.
