  • Raising Block Limits on Solana: SIMD-0250 and Its Economic Effects
    1 project | dev.to | 8 May 2025
SIMD-0250, a Solana Improvement Document (SIMD), proposes raising the network’s maximum block Compute Units (CUs) to 60 million. It builds on SIMD-0207, which proposes to raise the limit from 48 million to 50 million. The only change made in both proposals is to the Max Block Units. Other limits, like Max Writable Account Units, Max Vote Units, and Max Block Accounts Data Size Delta, stay the same. This means more room for non-vote transactions, which helps boost total transaction throughput.

Jump Trading announced a number of months ago that they'll be building a separate validator client from scratch with Firedancer. We also have Jito Labs building their own client for their MEV system/infrastructure. Given the development of this separate validator software it is now necessary to better coordinate changes to the underlying Solana specifications/architecture so that development and software changes are congruent. As a place to facilitate discussion for new major proposals to the blockchain, we now have what are called Solana Improvement Document (SIMD) proposals. which are analogous to Ethereum's EIP's and Bitcoin's BIP's. SIMD proposals can be found in the Solana Foundation github repo here and there will also be regular core engineering community calls to discuss SIMD proposals and other related topics (these will be announced in the Solana Tech discord).
  • Solana Foundation just held the first-ever core dev community call with engineering teams from across the ecosystem, here's what was discussed!
