Getting a Row Change Out of Postgres Without Dual-Writing
Rent the pipeline (examples, not a census; the build/rent line blurs since several offer self-hosted versions): Estuary does real-time CDC into warehouses and streams with a managed backfill story; Sequin is Postgres-native CDC aimed at developers who want changes as HTTP/streams without Kafka at all; Artie focuses on low-latency Postgres-to-warehouse replication; Striim sells the enterprise end with decades of database-replication lineage; and Airbyte wraps Debezium for the batch-leaning integration crowd. They differentiate on destinations, latency, and how much of the slot babysitting they absorb; all of them exist because that babysitting is real work. (Confluent's managed connectors and the clouds' native CDC services compete here too.)

Listen to Database Changes Through the Postgres WAL
Thanks for the WalEx mention!: https://github.com/cpursley/walex also, there’s https://github.com/sequinstream/sequin if you want something more robust that already works with connectors and smokes debezium in terms of performance.

I Built an Event-Sourcing Database Engine: Meet Genesis DB
Why not just hook up postgres to something like https://github.com/cpursley/walex or any of the other libraries like sequin https://sequinstream.com?

Streaming Postgres Changes with Debezium and Kafka Connect: A Hands-On Tutorial
Looking for a simpler solution? If you're reading this tutorial, you want to reliably stream changes out of your Postgres database. You’ve turned to Debezium, only to discover that the official Debezium documentation leaves more to be desired. I hit the same snag, and decided to save future developers similar toil by writting this guide. If you are looking for an easier, faster alternative to Debezium, we built Sequin to provide the same guarantees of Debezium while eliminating all this complexity.

A developer's reference to Postgres change data capture (CDC)
Sequin is a fast, simple, modern open source CDC platform tuned specifically to Postgres. It is known as the fastest, highest throughput change data capture solution for Postgres. It supports many different destinations with exactly-once processing guarantees. It’s easy to self-host via Docker and provides prometheus endpoints for monitoring and observation. It comes with an easy to use web console, CLI, and API as well as helpful developer tools. If you don’t want to self-host, you can also use Sequin Cloud.

Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2025)
We're building the world's fastest change data capture (CDC) platform for Postgres. CDC is a proven pattern that enables real-time use cases like triggering side effects, fanning out events, caching at the edge, and audit logging - but existing solutions are notoriously difficult to set up and maintain.
We're making CDC easy enough for weekend projects yet robust enough for Fortune 500 companies.
Sequin is open source/MIT (https://github.com/sequinstream/sequin). We're backed by Kleiner Perkins and Craft Ventures.
Tech Stack: Elixir/Phoenix, LiveView + Svelte, Postgres
What makes this role exciting:
- Join an early-stage open source project with significant technical influence
- Build a tool you would use for a user you understand
- Work deeply with Postgres
- Solve novel distributed systems challenges (not building CRUD apps)
- Work with Elixir/Phoenix and OTP primitives in production
- High-energy environment focused on rapid iteration and customer impact–we ship a lot, and fast!

Kuvasz-streamer: open-source CDC for Postgres for low latency replication
What kind of delivery guarantees does this offer? And does it provide data replay?
Currently evaluating https://sequinstream.com/ which claims sub-200ms latency, but has a lot of extras that I don’t need and a lighter weight alternative would be nice.
