Stop Trusting Your Agent's Final Answer: Build a Tiny Agent Tracer in TypeScript
Sep 29 and 30, 2026. The OpenTelemetry GenAI semantic conventions merged gen_ai.skill.* attributes for the execute tool span (#498) and a gen_ai.main_agent entity (#270). The span names are already there: invoke_agent {gen_ai.agent.name}, execute_tool {gen_ai.tool.name}, {gen_ai.operation.name} {gen_ai.request.model} for a model call, and a plan span since May. All of it is still marked Development.

Set up a .NET application w/th OpenTelemetry, and trace/evaluate in Langfuse
With Langfuse, there is currently no official SDK specifically designed to instrument OpenTelemetry data and ingest it into Langfuse. Fortunately, the OpenTelemetry community is working actively to extend the existing specification with Generative AI semantic conventions.

Putting the trace before the loop
The next task was deciding what gets stamped on every trace and span (types.ts#L129-L144). Guided by the OTel GenAI semantic conventions, I picked the stamps by asking who reads each one later. A few examples:

Your LLM Trace Is Green. Why Is the RAG Answer Still Wrong?
The current OpenTelemetry semantic conventions for generative AI recognise retrieval from a vector database or search system as a separate span. They include concepts such as the data source, top-k, retrieved document IDs, scores, and the effective retrieval query.

Deciding the criteria for excluding an AI-collected research topic candidate
There is a shared convention for recording what an AI agent does as well, the OpenTelemetry semantic conventions for GenAI, and work is under way there to settle the names and meanings of the items to record. The document's status is still Development, though, so the names can still change. As of today, what an AI can take over is the first-hand record of what was called when and what came back, and the judgment that raises that into a problem worth working on still sits with a person.

Distributed tracing for multi-agent systems with OpenTelemetry
The OpenTelemetry semantic conventions define a common set of semantic attributes which provide meaning to data when collecting, producing and consuming it. As far as agents are concerned, OpenTelemetry has conventions for spans, metrics, and events for GenAI clients, MCP servers and provider-specific (For example, OpenAI LLMs) conventions

What Is AI Agent Tool Calling? MCP, Function Calling, and A2A Explained (2026)
On security and governance, Arcade provides Agent Authorization with multi-user, post-prompt delegated authorization that enforces the strict intersection of agent and user permissions per action, isolating OAuth credentials entirely from the model's context window. Agent Lifecycle Governance adds a centralized control plane with OTel-compatible audit logs that track every tool invocation per user, with deployment across cloud, VPC, on-prem, and fully air-gapped environments. Arcade stays agnostic to models, frameworks, and clients, working with or without MCP and integrating with identity providers like Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and SailPoint out of the box.
