  • Most GNU/Linux OS distros are just skins (Rice up the GUI + Drop a wallpaper pack = call it an OS). Too many resources are wasted to this endeavor, while neglecting core components that will attract more users. I'd say less than 20% of distros actually work and innovate, the rest? Ricing / Skinning.
Remember I said they fail to react? It's 2021 and the cult following still thinks you cannot install applications under windows using the windows terminal. Yeah, that's right. They still think under windows you need to go to a website, download an EXE, and then go through multiple dialogs. Completely ignoring projects like ninite, scoop, chocolatey, and winget. So one of their biggest selling points it's GONE! The failing to react continues... windows WSL allows users to install GNU/Linux with full GUI support under windows. Let that sink in. Windows can do, whatever you want to do under Linux and NOT lose any compatibility what so ever. Wanna play a game? GO FOR IT! Wanna use proprietary software for productivity? GO FOR IT! Wanna use open source gnu/Linux software? GO FOR IT! wanna use Linux terminal apps? GO FOR IT! That's the death sentence for the GNU/Linux desktop environment. Wanna use GNU/Linux software that has a GUI? GO FOR IT!

For more context, I installed Neovim using scoop (will be move to choco soon), MinGW through choco (since scoop doesn't download it). Besides, I tried using LLVM but it appears to require a Visual Studio instance available as well(?). And yeah I've msvc available as well.

Scoop is a command-line package manager for Windows. It's just like:
  • Bro Linux users be like
When I first tried it, it was extremely slow and lacked many basic features such as updating packages. I don't know if it improved since then, I moved on to using Scoop (wasn't a fan of Chocolatey, don't remember why).

Also scoop is nice for package management, but again not a built-in tool and not nearly as comprehensive.
