I've had decent luck on roll20.net but it can be a real crapshoot.
People of reddit, what is an obscure thing (an item to buy, a web-comic, a game, etc.) you found online that you loved so much you felt the need to tell people about?

join a D&D group somewhere. roll20.net, dndbeyond.com, they're a bunch of weirdos but you'll have a lot of fun. :)
Tools to make and play my own D&D digitally?
reddit.com/r/worldbuilding | 2021-02-23
I imagine Roll20 (or any virtual tabletop software, really) could do the second one -- it's generally used for running D&D type games online. It should be able to do the character sheet stuff as well, but I've never really dealt with the character sheet creation part of Roll20.
Which Books are most important?
reddit.com/r/DMAcademy | 2021-02-20
The monster manual is the most important one, because that actually gives you the statblocks for monsters, as well as some lore around them. It's also really nice to flip through, as the images themselves grant a lot of inspiration. Websites like Roll20 and dndbeyond have virtual databases of this stuff though, which are much nicer to search and sort through (though admittedly, you lose out on the pictures, and some of the lore). I use these online databases almost exclusively; I only ever open up my reference books like twice a year, and that's only for a specific monster I can't find online readily.
Is there a way to view the source of what I just sent to chat from a character sheet?
reddit.com/r/Roll20 | 2021-02-20
The source code should be on GitHub. You can only view it within Roll20 if you have a Pro account. https://github.com/Roll20/roll20-character-sheets
Weekly Questions Megathread February 15 To

Roll20 - I first used Roll20 nearly a decade ago and when the pandemic hit and our game shifted online I logged back in to find that almost nothing had changed. Having no major advancements in a decade isn't a great thing. It's very barebones compared to the others. It's free but so is Astral. The owners of the site have not had especially good relationships with the community and one of them is the owner of one of the most downvoted comments on reddit after some BS they tried.

You can access it either in a game where you loaded it in, or you can also use the web compendium (on the main roll20.net page, select "Tools" at the top and then "Compendium" from the dropdown menu)
