- Roll 20 is an option but... its dated, laggy and (last I used it) unintuitive to prep on. Free or sub.

You have a feature you want to implement in WordPress.
Have you considered looking into Roll 20 yet? (https://roll20.net/) It's specifically designed for RP tabletop games to be played online. Would be much easier to use an existing platform for that then to invent one. Though, if you did want to create your own, you'd need to look into learning a javascript platform (i.e. Vue.js, Angular), since those would offer you a better platform to start with, over using WordPress to try to do it.
I love WordPress and support anyone trying to build their own site. But this sounds like trying to reinvent the wheel when there are places like Roll 20 around. https://roll20.net/

Coming Over from DND 5e to Pathfinder 2e and I Have Questions
Foundry VTT is by far the most popular VTT. Since all the rules of pathfinder 2e can be freely used, the entire system is free (no paying for individual books), although there is a one time $50 fee. If you don't want to pay anything at all, Roll20 has an adequate (though much worse) set up.
