  • age (formerly pronounced as Japanese あ げ "a-geh" [v. to rise up]) will now be pronounced age (length of survival [age like milk])
    reddit.com/r/crypto | 2021-04-01
Having no association with the age project, no formal training in cryptography, mathematics, Japanese, or English and being very tired of having to correct people's pronunciation of bad transliterations, I hereby declare that the age encryption middleware project now be pronounced as "age" (IPA: ˈāj). And furthermore, all extensions and adaptations of said project be changed as well. I am outraged against the mispronunciation machine!

That was a very interesting read, and covers all the issues I had with GPG/PGP broken down on a per-use-case basis, which is really neat. Fairly up-to-date too (aside from maybe WhatsApp mentioned alongside Signal). In any case, thanks for sharing! Nice to see simplified and somewhat modernized tools like (https://github.com/str4d/rage) and (https://github.com/FiloSottile/age)

Also, as /u/The-Best-Taylor, if you intend to use it for production or let others use it, then it's better to look for something already implemented. A good place to start is with https://github.com/str4d/rage.

pwbox is the only thing listed that is doing what OP asked for. Not really a plethora of libraries, rage would fill this functionality well but it doesn't expose its lib and is solely a CLI tool.
  • It seems like Rust software is bad
    dev.to | 2020-12-16
Another example is the Rust versus Go implementation of Age encryption - 2500 to 6000 lines. I think rage has a few more features, but really? Go is a relatively verbose language.
