Maybe I’m a weirdo… but I love the preflight almost as much as the flight. Charts, weather, & Vatsim radio. I love it all :)

I have a question: how do I turn on the second screen on the default Cessna 172? I made the default checklist until "after taxi" and realized in-flight that NAV2 couldn't work due to the screen being off.

Also if you don’t have it, grab PMS50’s mod for the 530/430. It brings it much closer to real life function/less frustrating. https://github.com/pimarc/pms50-gns530

Best flight sim for instrument training?
1 project | reddit.com/r/flightsim | 6 Apr 2021
As others have said, X-Plane is probably the best bet for instrument training, although it depends on what instrument systems you are trying to learn. Steam gauge VOR/ILS works great in MSFS in the steam gauge planes so you won't have any problems there. If you will be using a GNS530 or similar, there is a great free mod for MSFS that adds a good implementation for those systems: https://github.com/pimarc/pms50-gns530 The G1000 today is still severely lacking even with the Working Title mod, so I can't recommend it for trianing.

Some of the 3rd party planes use the GNS530, but as /u/dciskey said I believe the steam gauge 172 is the only in-built plane to use it, and it isn't available in the standard edition. Make sure you install the GNS530 mod as it greatly improves the GPS: https://github.com/pimarc/pms50-gns530
I never dreamed that I would one day be able to print my own METAR report mid-flight 😍

I recently found the GNS530 mod that also adds METAR support to the 530: https://github.com/pimarc/pms50-gns530
I like this plane way more than I thought I would! What a fun flight in Iceland
