Yeah, at least with https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules the community can now do NVIDIA's work for them as they don't have to reverse engineer the low level gpu interface
I don't think I'll ever forget how much NVIDIA drivers made me wanna rip my hair out
