Sim racing on Linux/Steam Deck 2022 an update
The people Behind the logitech driver new-lg4ff most logitech wheels work fantastic now.

Please open-source ghub so I can make a software that's actually worth a shit.
On Linux there's libratbag/Piper for keyboards and mice and new-lg4ff/Oversteer for steering wheels, if you want to take a look at how they do some things or straight up just fork them and port to Windows.
- Does steam input support steering wheels?

Linux gamers, what is making you stay?
I also play racing sims and have a G29, and have almost no issues. I've put hundreds of hours in ACC, F1, and ETS2. I use both oversteer and the new-lg4ff driver.
You want this for your G29 if you haven't already installed it. I will admit that sim racing is a blind spot in Proton's support, but this should at least fix some of the wheel-related problems.

Logitech G29 no longer recognized in Proton
So about a year ago I got a Logitech G29 steering wheel and tried a couple of games (the one I stuck with because it worked well was Forza Horizon 4). I used the new-lg4ff driver to get the LED display the force feedback strength and oversteer to configure the wheel. Everything seemed to work fine, atleast in FH4. I was always running mesa-git (AMD GPU) and proton experimental, because those gave me the best result.

Current state of SimRacing in Linux (Updated to 2022-2)
Yes, Personally I can recommend the use of a Logitech Wheel, specifically the G29, which is the one I have and it works perfectly and without problems if you install the new-lg4ff driver module. Other second-hand steering wheels such as the DFGT, G27 or G25 also work very well with the same driver. The G920 works without a driver module, just with the one that comes in the kernel, but some people have had problems with some games, so I don't recommend it. Then , there are some Fanatec and Thustmaster wheels/pedals that work with other module drivers, but I don't think the support is that advanced
