  • [Unpopular Opinion] Bitcoin is a pretty bad coin and if we talk about "fundamentals" it is highly overpriced
The devs basically say what I said. Every node must know the balance of every other node at all times. See this, this, this, etc

The Lightning Network is operational now, but it has some problems to iron out, and many potential improvements. It is a specification for a protocol, with multiple competing implementations written in different languages (C, Go, Scala, Rust and others in progress). There are very few developers actively working on this protocol and every new developer can have a meaningful impact on its progress. The protocol is developed openly at [github/lightningnetwork/lightning-rfc]https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lightning-rfc).

    How the spec changes
  • Node connectivity question
If you have an in-flight HTLC when you lose connectivity and you don't re-establish connectivity before the HTLC's cltv_expiry then the affected channel will be forcibly closed in order to settle the HTLC. This expiry could be as little as 9 blocks away if your node is the destination or maybe 42 blocks if your channel peer is the terminal node.
  • Node Peers
  • CTLV Delta settings?
At each hop of a payment, the sending node A creates an HTLC with the receiving node B. What this means is that both nodes, which share a channel, agree to update their commitment (channel closing) transaction to include a new output, which is spendable according to the HTLC terms: Either (by B, to claim his satoshis without A agreeing to update the commitment tx as they should) presentation of the preimage, or (by A, to recover the offered funds for a failed/expired payment without B agreeing to update the commitment tx).
