    Libra, Pocketbooks are pretty bad readers compared to Kobo. If you feel like you're lacking features you can install KOReader. This gives you a lot of manga related features (different zoom modes, where you "pan" the page), and panel zoom (zooming to one specific panel). If you think mostly of manga, then I'd consider Onyx Boox Nova 3 too. You can install Tachiyomi there, since it's android and has a bit bigger screen.

    I still use a 2012 Fire HD 8.9, but that's almost exclusively to read PDFs with sideloaded KOReader. Tablets in general do "age out" but on the cheap and low end they seem to do it much faster.

    Where are you getting that from? The github repo (https://github.com/koreader/koreader) lists many supported formats and features, including epubs.
  • I'm looking to track books read, minutes per day and ideally words per minute, using Kindle, Libby, or Play Books. Any ideas?
    koreader has that as a plugin.
