I reworked my program so it can screen share your PC to every WS2812B matrix no matter the size. (Download in comments)
Check out Hyperion for anyone interested in this type of effect + some additional features. It's primarily focused on bias lighting for TVs or monitors, but it has a matrix output mode very similar to the above demo.

Raspberry pie for controlling addressable LED strips, whats the best way?
Take a look at hyperion, it's a great project which I used in the past for a DIY ambient light setup and can be easily extended: https://github.com/hyperion-project/hyperion.ng

I miss my self-hosting hobby
WLED is indeed great, I have one in my man cave, one behind the living room TV (synced to the picture thanks to hyperion which is also available as HA addon) and one in my daughter's room. Low WAF has prevented more WLEDs from cropping up all around the house.

I would like to install hyperion on my rpi4 but I'm not sure which release should I get. I know that rpi4 is ARM but the release page lists several options. Which is the correct one? Or should I simply follow this guide in order to get a working hyperion installation?

Op m'n Donder Gekregen Thursday
For the software I used WLED which was surprisingly simple to set up. Just flash the software on the microcontroller, this creates a Wifi AP where you can connect it to your own wifi network. Once that was done I downloaded Hyperion on my PC and set it up to connect with WLED. This captures my PC screen (I use my laptop with an HDMI cable to watch all my content) and communicates with WLED to set the correct lights.

TV Ambient Light with Hyperion and Raspberry Pi (HOW-TO)
I found a couple of v7's but neither worked, maybe I am missing something? Taken from the https://github.com/hyperion-project/hyperion.ng/releases/tag/2.0.0-alpha.9 page.
