Is there a recommended ffmpeg command cookbook with common / high quality scripts?
Netflix’s vmaf AI based comparison engine is in ffmpeg now by default I think. You can take some snippets of your video and run some compressions and compare them to the original to see how they compare. I threw together a script a few years ago to automate that process a bit https://github.com/Torpus/ffmpeg-compare It’s pretty old so not sure it still works but could give you some ideas on how to implement something similar.

Converting h264 10bit to h265 10bit with minimal quality loss?
Use vmaf to compare some sample conversions and see what works best for you size and quality wise. I put together a simple script that does this a while back you could probably repurpose or use if it still works. https://github.com/Torpus/ffmpeg-compare
