Tips on managing config backups?
I have the classic git repo with symlinks setup for the core configs that I modify a lot and want a change history for. Right now I use dotbot to do the automatic setup, but git submodules are clumsy if you only use them a few times a year. I intend to switch over to stow for the simplicity.

Trying to move my nvim folder to my .dotfiles folder and create a symlink in .config but now working
Try using something like https://github.com/anishathalye/dotbot

Best way to manage dotfiles using just Git
I trust a manager like dotbot. With a simple command I create all the symbolic links and leave everything installed and configured. Over time I have been creating a folder structure to have all the files organized. Also, I try to browse other repositories that I find in case I see something interesting.

rcarriga/nvim-notify: A fancy, configurable, notification manager for NeoVim
I use dotbot to sync my config, which I highly recommend. I also work in a docker container when on EC2 because I like to use Arch but it's so much easier to just use amazon linux on an EC2 so you can have a working hibernate.

binary in dotfiles management
Hi folks, 6 years ago I started my journey with open source dev, and like many who start, I used someone else's dotfiles and over the years, I've made it my own (I'm still trying to reset my vimrc from zero and start over). But anyway, I've been using https://github.com/anishathalye/dotbot to manage the dotfiles but I'm curious if anyone has ever used a good tool for managing your executables? For example, pretty much everything I use for personal stuff (docker-compose, kubectl, etc) all live in my ./dotfiles/bin and it's included in the path in my zshrc.

submodules with nested workingtrees in dotfiles repo
Hello there, During the last few weeks I began to create a repository for all kind of dotfiles for zsh, vim, small use scripts involved in my i3 configuration etc. The files then get linked to the right place by dotbot. Preparing the dotfiles involves a lot submodules, like dotbot itself, plugins for dotbot, ohmyzsh as central part of my zsh configuration, powerlevel10k as theme for zsh and in addition probably some more in the future.

Ask HN: Dotfiles Management Tools?
chezmoi [1] looks like a tool for power-users. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. It seems to be more capable (and more complex) than dotbot [2]

How do you manage your dotfiles?
I stumbled upon DotBot. It's a lightweight solution that allows me to structure my dot files in a better way. You are still technically symlinking files and folders from your .dotfiles, or whatever you name it, to other locations, but I do more than that with it.
