    It's really interesting that his Mac didn't detect the printer but Linux did, since the CUPS driver used in Linux is maintained by Apple...

    After he left, all his cups commits to Apple's public CUPS repo stopped[1] and his work continued in the OpenPrinting fork of CUPS[2]. Interestingly though, it seems he resumed committing to the Apple repo in March. I'm glad CUPS on macOS isn't going to be left behind, but I'm curious what happened there.

    If that old printer supports cups, it should technically work with that M1 Mac (in practice, printing is like black magic). macOS and Linux both use cups!

    A few months after the license change the main developer left Apple and the project is ever since pretty much dead; the main developer works on a fork. I think we can now disassociate CUPS from Apple. Hence, “CUPS” is not a satisfactory answer to “Had BSD grown a lot because of Apple contributions?”.
