Ask HN: Nitter officially declared "over" today, alternatives?
In terms of a browser extension for Twitter, I highly recommend Control Panel for Twitter. It works as a browser extension as well as on some mobile browsers. It is highly customizable to filter out who/what you don't want to see and is fully open source if you feel the need to tweak.
It's updated regularly and the creator is highly active on Twitter to provide updates and answer questions - @ControlPanelFT
If you decide to use it, drop the guy a donation, they work hard on it!

Mozilla.social is live and open to registration
> Prioritising the replies of people who pay money for it was a body blow
A Twitter reply thread will only load around 200 Tweets in total, so on Tweets which have a lot of engagement, it's more likely that your reply will never be seen even if you paid, which defeats their whole purpose for ruining reply threads as a selling point. Just an incredibly short-sighted change.
My browser extension for Twitter [0] can hide replies from "verified" users - if you look at any Elon Musk tweet with this feature enabled, you'll be lucky if you see more than 1 reply.
Quote Tweets are where it's at now if you want to find comments on busy tweets which aren't Twitter Blue user posting multiple cry-laugh emojis, and they've recently made those take multiple clicks to access, from one of 2 different menus (my extension also restores the old Quote Tweets link).

For your next side project, make a browser extension
I love the section on "Earning the pixels", as this is something I also put a lot of time into in extensions, from the target site itself to the options page in my extensions having per-browser CSS to make sure it fits in with the browser's own options UI (and in light and dark mode).
With Twitter, earning the pixels in the site UI is even more fraught as it's a React Native for Web app, so you really don't want to touch the app's own DOM directly, as it will most likely get wiped out on the next render.
e.g. The latest version of Tweak New Twitter [0] keeps you on the "Following" timeline, gets rids of the new "For you" tab and adds a new "Retweets" tab - to highlight the Retweets tab as active when the user clicks it, I had to add a styling hook class to and use that to manually style the Retweet tab as active and override styles for existing tabs to make them display as inactive. Another layer of fun: at any point the user can change the Default/Dim/Lights out theme and the highlight colour using the Display dialogue, so I needed to figure out how to detect these changes, figure out what was now being used and re-apply them to custom UI on the fly.

Why do you waste so much time on the internet
https://github.com/insin/tweak-new-twitter/
If you need it for mobile, on my mobile (Android) I downloaded Kiwi Browser so I can install that plugin.

Twitter's new font, Chirp, is apparently giving some users headaches
If you don't like the new font or Follow/Following buttons, my browser extension/user script for Twitter can now get rid of them, screenshots in the release notes here (the latest Chrome version is still pending review at the time of typing):
https://github.com/insin/tweak-new-twitter/releases
I tried turning Chirp back on after a full day of coding at work and it's even worse when your eyes are starting to get tired, genuinely unpleasant to look at (on Windows, at least).
