Is Keybase still trusted and recommended or should one stop using Keybase after they were acquired by Zoom, which has ties with China?
Active development stopped the day Keybase was acquired: https://github.com/keybase/client/graphs/contributors 3700+ open issue tickets, most have no responses by a maintainer: https://github.com/keybase/client/issues

- We are still making regular updates to Keybase. These updates consist primarily of bugfixes, security fixes, performance improvements and patches to 3rd party libraries. We are not currently pursuing any major new features. The paper trail for Keybase updates is visible for all to see here: https://github.com/keybase/client/tags
Yeah looking at the commit graph for the keybase client shows a pretty obvious acquisition date..
Yes, this has always been the case. The root CA is embedded in the Keybase client: https://github.com/keybase/client/blob/master/go/libkb/ca.go
This provides a way to add some protection against a polluted trusted CA store.

The Case for Open Infrastructure
> The source code for Keybase is, right now, fully open source on their Github
Really? My understanding was that the client and some libraries they use are open source, but the actual server code is closed source. Although if Zoom isn't going to continue maintaining keybase, then open sourcing the server code seems like "the right thing to do" (at least morally, and probably from a PR standpoint as well). Even if they did want to continue maintaining it, it would be a good thing in my opinion, but moreso if the project will die otherwise.

keybase git repositories
This may be unrelated but week before last a new buggy version of the keybase client was released (v5.9.0). This is the first release since September. It has issues related to KBFS mounts that caused me to have to downgrade to the previous version. If you're seeing problems that only recently cropped up, this may relate to this new version.
-
FYI : Keybase update from last week (v5.9.0) is causing mount and launch issues
Lots of folks reporting the issue ( https://github.com/keybase/client/issues ). For me it manifested on two different Ubuntu 18.04 systems as the / mount stopping working. I put instructions in this issue on how to downgrade back to v5.8.1 on Ubuntu/Debian for the time being
Really? I only see 2 in the last 3 months.

Show HN: A Decentralized, End-to-End Encrypted Alternative to Dropbox
I currently use Keybase for this purpose, and while it's not entirely dead yet (slow-but-present maintenance at https://github.com/keybase/client/issues/24636#issuecomment-...), the writing's been on the wall since Zoom acquihired them. If I can figure out how this works, I'll be happy to give you my money.

Resetting account - 12 word phrase?
The word list seems to be in https://github.com/keybase/client/blob/38a96307aa34f4ebafff79aa45a7c6245dd2ae38/go/libkb/secwords.go - a bit more than 2000 words. My paper key also has 13 words, but I joined in 2019. The file history shows a modification in 2015 which might have an effect on the word count. However, I'm just an unrelated onlooker here.
- Anyone else experiencing issues with finder integration on MacOS Monterey?
