Why Modern Software Is Slow
I haven't the chance to look at the new calculator. Is it this one?

Rust is eating into our systems, and it's a good thing (and it's time for me to retire)
C++ is used heavily in the Windows ecosystem. COM+ is a massive pain but it's much worse if you stick to plain C. C# (and to some extent VB.NET) are commonly used for Windows platforms for their excellent developer productivity, but C++ remains a power house in performance critical software. Microsoft itself combines C# and C++ in products like Windows Calculator, and Windows XP's leaked source code is full of cpp files.

How is Linux more secure from hackers if it’s open source?
The Windows Calculator is open source from Microsoft. Do you think just any hacker can change the code for your calculator in Windows and on the next update, you run that code? How is Windows secure, if just any hacker can modify the calculators code to do anything they want? The answer is they can't modify the code arbitrarily in the calculators code repository that Microsoft oversees.

How and why Relational Model works for databases
I could see how someone would get that impression If they've only worked at companies who only exist solely to light VC cash on fire.
It's an incorrect impression, obviously.
For >20 year old code, Calc.exe is just one example off the top of my head - https://github.com/Microsoft/calculator
The majority of the products I've personally worked on over my 15 year career in software development are still doing useful things and contain code written more than 20 years ago.
