[Guide] How to boot Orange pi 5 from SATA m.2 SSD not NVME (for Orange pi OS and Armbian)
write armbian .img file to your sd card with balenaetcher, I chose to use the more up to date imags from their github here https://github.com/armbian/build/releases/ make sure to unzip

I've tried getting the OPi 5 to display with both hdmi and USB-C with zero luck. Not even detecting a change in temperature on any chips. I'm almost certain it's a bad board. any advice?
Okay, poked around some more on the forum and found: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4582

So what are you guys using in stead of the Pi
Armbian or DietPi help BUT they do not have the weight of the Foundation or home user community yet.
I have a few SBC's from FriendlyElec: https://www.friendlyelec.com/index.php?route=common/home I have a NanoPi M4 and a Neo4. Both have been running solid for about 2 years. I run Armbian. One of them is my Samba server (OMV) and the other (neo4) runs Home Assistant in docker containers.

orange pi bare metal
Well, Armbian support this board so they have images available at https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-lite/ that you can download and write to an SD card. If you want to try building something yourself you can look at Armbian’s build system at https://github.com/armbian/build 👍

Is it worth getting a RPI?
PiHole should run on almost anything. I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned the Inovato Quadro yet. It's similar in horsepower to a Pi 3B+ (plenty for most Pi projects that aren't GPU intensive) and comes ready to go with power supply, HDMI cable, a case, and Armbian installed (or you can install your own ARM compatible distro), for $30 and available now. I got one in last week to play with since I just pulled the last Pi4 I had from my stash for another project, and am looking for Pi alternatives to have onhand while the market is dried up. I'm thinking of migrating my pihole to it, and reclaim the Pi4 it's running on now for something else.

Newbie here. Can this do the same job as a Raspberry Pi4 for my printer? Since raspberry are more expensive where I live, I was looking for alternatives.
I don't know how well it is maintained (it looks a bit outdated, last commit is a few months ago) but https://github.com/ludiazv/octocitrico suggest you can install Octoprint on other ARM SBC supported by Armbian (OrangePi, NanoPi, Orddroid, etc., see their download page for a list of boards).

Port Raspbian to any Libre Computer board
There's also Armbian which is a preconfigured Debian image for pretty much every SBC on the market.
