Why Plain Text Is Still One of the Best Technologies We Have
I prefer the simpler beancount: https://github.com/beancount/beancount
All of these use slightly incompatible formats, the irony of which will not escape the educated reader.

receipt2bean: turning my partner's receipt photos into Beancount with a local vision model
My business partner keeps the receipt for everything she spends for the business. She photographs them on her phone, and at the end of the year I have to sit down and type them into my books by hand. I keep the books in Beancount, a plain-text accounting system. She has been clear that she will not learn plain-text accounting.

Show HN: Wealthfolio 2.0- Open source investment tracker. Now Mobile and Docker
I manage all of my finances with Beancount (https://github.com/beancount/beancount). It has a native document store, I primarily use it to archive all of my statements across all accounts to share with my accountants with Fava (https://github.com/beancount/fava).
Language models are great at turning those statements into Beancount postings and fixing errors, but the local ones not so much yet. They can write scripts, even, to speed up the work!

Beancount is Personal Finance for Developers
I don’t remember exactly how I stumbled on Beancount. It’s very good at being financial software for software developers. The key selling point, which granted seemed odd at first, is that the database is just a text file. It looks like this:

My Beancount books are 95% automatic after 3 years (2024)
As far as I can tell this is without the planned C++ rewrite though, and the documentation at https://beancount.github.io/ still says to use v2.
Is there a point in migrating already?

Ask HN: How much do you spend on food a day?
On average for calendar year 2024, it was $35 a day, living in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. For two people. My guess would be this is on the higher end of things, but I'm curious about others. Another factor is I am 95kg, 15% bf and train 6 times a week, so I eat a lot. (I beancount[1] my finances.)
