  • KDE is really bad at managing multiple monitors. Any advice? | 2021-07-28
Along these lines, there's also autorandr. It lets you save the current settings as a profile, so I used it similarly but with aliases instead of keyboard shortcuts.

I'm trying to use my external monitor if the lid of my laptop is closed and my laptop screen if it's open. I tried using autorandr for this but it doesn't detect my external monitor at boot and doesn't switch to it. I have to manually lift up the lid and type autorandr -c for that to happen.

Autorandr works really nice for me, it can execute scripts before and after changing display setup (restarts bar, sends notification etc), you can save multiple setups and it will recognize the proper one when displays are connected.

    You should try autorandr

I use autorandr for this. autorandr allows you to build profiles for different monitor settings and then detecting changes. These profiles can execute hook scripts, that's where I (re)start polybar.
