Aye, I realized that's the thing - phones are already doing facial recognition very well. But there's hope as another user found this: https://github.com/AIRLegend/aitrackreddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim | 2021-04-01
You got me curious so I did some looking and found this.. When combined with opentrack, you can use a webcam for TrackIR input. Good luck, if I had a webcam I'd try it myself
Is head tracking still a thing?
reddit.com/r/simracing | 2021-03-02
Yes it’s still a thing. I’ve been using it with my 34” ultra wide and it’s a huge help once you dial in the response curves. Best part? It’s FREE! Well almost, you just need a web webcam. Get aiTrack and Opentrack from GitHub and you’re good to go.
Foip Head Tracking In 60fps Using Ps3eye Camera
reddit.com/r/starcitizen | 2021-03-02
There are two other applications, I 've found. First one is Aitrack. The other is Gazetracker. Both use artificial intelligence to extract 6D face pose estimation data. They work great with the second one being more accurate in my tests. I haven't tested enough though, just found it. I can't make the first one to work with my PS3 eye camera. Keep in mind that the second one is more resource hungry, using almost 80-90% of my cpu.
Someone said i should post VR TrackIR alternative in action so here it is

I feel like at this point people should just use something like this then https://github.com/AIRLegend/aitrack
Can we have a giant freeware thread?

Can i use a random webcam for diy track ir ?
reddit.com/r/hotas | 2021-02-14
https://github.com/AIRLegend/aitrack works well enough without any infrared shenanigans.
If I get the trackir pro clip and a ps3 eye camera with filter would that work. And I know the pro clip breaks easy
reddit.com/r/hotas | 2021-02-12
If you have a pS3 eye or any cam with 60 fps already, save your money for the clip. Just use Aitrack https://github.com/AIRLegend/aitrack in combination with Opentrack.

HOPPED ON DCS
reddit.com/r/hoggit | 2021-02-02
It might not be specific to the Su25, but get some headtracking. If you cant even fork out the few dollars for SmoothTrack, then AIRLegend/aitrack is free and uses just a webcam (even droidcam). It must be combined with opentrack(also free) for use in DCS.
Flying without Headtracking

Head tracking with a webcam?
reddit.com/r/starcitizen | 2020-12-21
I found a combo of opentrack and https://github.com/AIRLegend/aitrack/releases/tag/v0.6.3-alpha worked well enough that I use it pretty regularly now. It's MUUUUCH better in low light too.
