  • Question about organizing and using YT video collection
I use the TheFrenchGhostys skripts slightly modified. So basically sorted after channels. Playlists are sorted after playlist and unique videos go in a separate folder. I use jellyfin with the YouTube metadata Plugin to view them and have no problems
  • Dear youtube archivists, how do you guys archive videos from search results (or particularly a channel)?
I personally use youtube-dl as it is basically the gold standard for downloading videos especially on youtube. I do not mind using a CLI but when you have multiple different scripts and so on it can get a bit messy. Tartube can solve this problem almost completely and it internally also just uses youtube-dl. On top of that I use a TheFrenchGhosty's script to ensure I get decent quality as youtube-dl tends to download just the best version where no merging is needed.
  • Best YouTube downloader with a GUI?
  • Best Youtube Downloader other than youtube-dl?
Use TheFrenchGhosty's script. Surely not 100% perfect but overall very close to it and more than good enough for most users.

Pretty handy if you already use custom youtube-dl configs like the ones from TheFrenchGhosty.

Something I've found quite recently: this guy seems to be using (bestaudio[acodec^=opus]/bestaudio)/best in his archival scripts. The reasoning I think is that sometimes there may not be individual audio streams, in which case bestaudio alone will choke. This makes it so it will fall back on extracting the audio from a combined stream. Though I do not understand why he used parenths. Maybe that's a syntactical rule for youtube-dl.
