Least tech savvy way to setup a server for young kids?
Minecrafts Open To Lan shoud do totally fine and requires almost no setup just jump in a world and in Esc click open to lan and on other pc write host's ip:port and connect. If u want setup where the world is accessible even tho host doesn't play right now u want standalone server.jar that requires bit more setup. I only use PaperMC or fabric but u can just run mojang's original server.jar. PaperMC is optimized fork of Spigot with support for plugins that can do for example something like /home /spawn etc. just need to find plugin that does what u look for. Just a disclaimer not all mc mechanics work totally same in Paper but that is more of problem if u want to do something crazy like build compute module in mc world. Fabric is for modded experiences.

Just created a HeavyNode server, need some help with plugins?
I am trying to use https://github.com/foncused/LongerDays plugin on my HeavyNode server. From other threads and the help page on the Heavynode it seems like I need to replace the default JAR with Paper JAR to get plugins to run. I am having difficulty figuring out how to do that. From another thread: "Replace your default Vanilla jar with Paper, in the startup tab on the left in your HeavyNode panel, set it to launch with Paper-1.16.5-xxx (where xxx is the version of paper you downloaded) and start the server to generate the plugins folder. Once the plugins folder is generated, drop the plugins into that folder (large plugins will require you to use an SFTP client such as WinSCP) and restart the server to load them on." I go to my startup tab and there is really nothing to click on there. Just my startup command and "docker image". Any incite is appreciated :)

Issues setting up a modded server on Oracle Cloud
For server software, I recommend you use Fabric with performance mods. But if you don't mind breaking parity using Purpur (A fork of Paper with more customization) is a good choice.
-
Which is better for performance? Vanilla server or forge with no mods?
As others have mentioned, you can use Fabric with lithium & so on, but if you're after a vanilla experience, PaperMC might be a safer bet. You can always use data packs to tweak the game.

[Mod/Datapack Request] Multiplayer Sleeping Datapack or Mod that excludes AFK player
Are you mixing up PaperMC with Fabric? PaperMC indeed is a fork of Spigot that is performance oriented. Fabric is a Modloader just like Forge. Fabric does not have plugin capabilities, since it is Mod based. There are Projects, that aim to add plugins to Fabric, like Cardboard, but these are still a work in progress. As you can see by their Progress Tracker.

Furthermore, I strongly recommend you read this entire page very carefully before you start, as it contains many recommendations that will help your server run well. Finally, use Paper for your server software, not vanilla, Bukkit, or Spigot.
