Securing AI agents in your infrastructure: a sandbox is only the first layer
OpenShell is the part of Nvidia's platform most teams can use today. It is open source under Apache 2.0 and currently labelled alpha. It runs each agent in a sandbox where filesystem paths and process restrictions are locked when the sandbox is created, outbound network access is blocked unless a policy allows it, and credentials are granted per endpoint. According to VentureBeat's report, a policy prover checks each policy against organizational limits before it is applied, and Nvidia's Ali Golshan was clear that "It is deterministic."

Pi Durable
super interesting. I have so many half-considered questions... like sandboxing (it seems like it is BYO). would love to have some kind of policy engine.. perhaps an integration with https://github.com/NVIDIA/openshell in the form of an extension?
also, I see most of the durability promise comes from persisting JSON documents locally and minimizing the amount of context/data kept in-memory, even during SQLite mode. while this makes sense, my own experiments with a process that relied on a JSONL-based event store have led me to prefer keeping things in-memory to avoid all the friction with I/O.. am I crazy for preferring just a straight .db file being persisted?

Stop eyeballing your agent's permissions. Prove them.
OpenShell is NVIDIA's open-source runtime for sandboxing AI agents, and it sat at #2 on GitHub trending as I wrote this. You write a YAML policy per sandbox: which paths an agent can read or write, which user it runs as, and which binaries can reach which hosts. The filesystem rules go through Landlock in the kernel, and network traffic goes through a proxy that can check each HTTP method and path.

Nvidia OpenShell Ships the Agent Kill Switch
On September 28, 2026, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the Open Agent Safety Platform — a two-layer system pairing OpenShell, an open-source Rust runtime that sandboxes agents at the Linux kernel level, with Sentry, a hardware watchdog running on Nvidia's BlueField-4 DPUs that can quarantine a rogue agent in milliseconds. Over 100 partners signed on at launch, including Anthropic, Microsoft, Oracle, SpaceX, and ARM. OpenAI was notably absent from the list.

Docker Sandboxes – Disposable, isolated sandboxes for AI agents
We run https://github.com/NVIDIA/OpenShell on our workloads and we like it because it is backed by NVIDIA and fits natively within our k8s env.
It also provides a nice TUI for network policy management.
