  • Having trouble blocking domains on netguard
    2 projects | /r/fossdroid | 1 Jul 2023
Currently using the default netguard hosts file to block domains. The downlaod url is https://www.netguard.me/hosts and It just downloads the default stevenblack host file. But I want to block more stuff that the default does not block so I looked at Stevenblack github. The problem is that when I put in the hosts file download url, the domains do not get blocked. Such as if I use the fake news host then go to a fake news domain, fake news is still showing. Same thing when I download the hosts file then import it. Is there a fix for this in the app so I can block these domains?

Few methods exist: - root the phone to remove/disable Play Store and Play Services - install a VPN app (e.g. https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard) and prevent Internet from Google apps - install LineageOS (with or without microG) / DivestOS if supported, or GrapheneOS / CalyxOS if you have a Pixel phone

As far as debloating goes, there are threads on XDA site where others might have posted routines where you may do so without rooting(jailbreak in apple lingo). But if you really want to depracate some of that bloat from your system or atleast have a significant lick on bloatware's functions a) you are better off rooting your phone, again there are a whole bunch of these threads on XDA. b) at the very least I would suggest you install Netguard and Adaway apps. What you are looking for is an app file on these pages I mentioned.

In case you don't have that option, you can always use NetGuard. That also satisfies your rootless requirement.
    2 projects | /r/androidapps | 19 Feb 2023
They do have a FAQ, https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/blob/master/FAQ.md Blocking individual apps from having online access is pretty straightforward though, just a matter of looking up the app in question in the list and disable wifi and mobile for it.
