Item_Upgrade
The Item Upgrade Mod Pack allows Cromwell and Cespenar to upgrade more items for you. Half of them are conveniences, the other half try to prop up weapon categories that are "weak" by comparison (e.g., maces and clubs).

Under-Respresented_Items
This mod adds items to Baldur's Gate 2. The items come from Icewind Dale 2. Only certain kinds of items were chosen. Items were selected to flesh out smaller weapon families.

Are there any weapon expansion mods
Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items are both great mods. They do a lot to make different weapon groups more viable, so taking halberd or bastard sword proficiency feels like a better option.

Mod Item Analysis: Ruad Rofessa's Smithy of Colors: Weapons Part 5 (Final)
There's also Forgotten Armament as a proper alternative. It does similar things like changing items that set a stat to +2 instead of a fixed 18, but the most interesting component is the one that changes all weapons to use the 3.5e rules (I think IR only does it for the scimitar). It doesn't change all the same weapons IR does (yet), and in fact changes some that IR doesn't. The ones both change, FA seems to move away from the funny and/or experimental mechanic design of IR, but if you don't mind spending some time tweaking things, you could mix both to your liking.
- any good spear mods? BG1 or 2
