Questions I have about Linux, from someone who wants to switch from Windows 10
Extremely good. Just take a look at https://protondb.com for general compatibility ratings. Performance is also often very close, sometimes even better on Linux (which is wild). The only thing you should pay attention to is anti-cheat systems used in some multiplayer titles. For their compatibility, check out https://areweanticheatyet.com/ (especially if you intend to play some commercial multiplayer titles). However I don't recommend running any of this, because this kind of invasive anti-cheat software can behave just like malware. It's better if you run it on Linux than on Windows though (if it runs on Linux at all), because it runs with higher privileges on Windows, and you don't want that crap running in the background with tons of rights. Anti-cheat is the biggest compatibility question. If there is no anti-cheat or the anti-cheat is compatible, then it's like 95% likely that the Windows game will also run on Linux.

[no spoilers][dao] wanted to play with mods on linux, couldn't find a guide so I wrote on
There's a really good list of games with anti-chest and their support here: https://areweanticheatyet.com/ - if nothing else that can help make an informed decision :)

We all agree that monopolies are bad. Then why are so many people okay with having ONE operating system to rule them all?
Anticheat compatibilty
Those are some decent games and some of them even have native ports (at least CSGO did several years ago when I tried it out, I don't know if it is still maintained). But there are still a lot of huge titles (Valorant, Fortnite, Roblox banning Wine on purpose) that are not supported on Linux and the developers will likely never put any effort into making sure that this is the case (source: Are We Anti-Cheat Yet?). Your average Timmy wants to just double-click the desktop icon just to launch their software without tinkering with launch commands and (the scariest of them all) the all-feared Terminal. It's because of this the Linux adoption rate (according to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey) has not passed 1.5% even with the Steam Deck's popularity in the hand-held market.

I need advice on Linux and Gaming:
First you should look up if your games work (ProtonDB for Steam games and AreWeAntiCheatYet for AntiCheats), because many games just don't work because of AntiCheats.

Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Wine, Steam, Proton, Lutris, GloriousEggroll, and everyone else that has been involved in helping and improving gaming on linux!
Still a problem. Some games with anti-cheat software works, but many popular titles still don't. Have a look here: https://areweanticheatyet.com/

Not even at gun point
If you specifically only look at anticheat multiplayer games, its only like 50% of games work. Its basically the last bastion preventing linux from becoming a true microsoft competitor in the gaming space. https://areweanticheatyet.com/
