Twitter got a good reputation partly because people like andy carvin talked the company up during the arab spring. at the time, it arguably was being used as a tool by radicals for their ends. but here's the thing: governments just DoS twitter.com the second something happens: ex. istanbul last week. twitter hasn't been useful in this regard for a LOOOOONG time. the educational/outreach aspect...perhaps, but as you suggest it was already squelching leftists, and really, it's not like there aren't many other ways to reach people. imo, we should just let it die and find other ways to communicate with our people.
