If youre just starting out, dont have much programming language and are planning on making 2D only games, then I recommend you look into Gdevelop. Its an open source game engine thats very beginner friendly and shows a lot of promise. Lots of tutorial content and easy to start with. They already have a platformer example as a project to get you started.
