I think my site was hacked and I found this PHP file called kill.php on my host's server. What's going on here?

  • As for whether I'd go with my own server or a hosted site it depends. If I need a massive amount of space, odd software to be installed, or just had other requirements that I couldn't get with a hosted solution then I'd go with running a server myself. If I didn't need that though I'd either end up using Github pages which I've used for microsites related to some projects, or look for a hosted service. I can run machines and have some security knowledge but it's time consuming to get things right, and keeping them updated can feel like a chore, and it's not something I personally enjoy doing.
