I'm guessing it will be discarded in favor of Carbon. Go was originally intended to replace C++ and didn't succeed.

I can't help but wonder how long before Go is discontinued by Google. They start to get bored of projects around the 10 year mark, and Go is getting a bit long in the tooth.
