Lex Fridman - after years of Emacs switched to VScode

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/emacs

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • Visual Studio Code

    Visual Studio Code

  • They can't extinguish - it is open source with an MIT license https://github.com/microsoft/vscode. At best they can abandon.

  • LibVLCSharp

    Cross-platform .NET/Mono bindings for LibVLC

  • Not really, that's like saying that because there's more than 10 different media players available on Linux-based distros there's a problem. It fundamentally misses the point of having choice. I like mpv & EMMS. Some people prefer VLC.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • serenity

    The Serenity Operating System 🐞

  • Andreas Kling wrote an operating system (Serenity OS), Browser and a ton of kernel and user-land code in JetBrains CLion and Linus wrote Linux using whatever he was using (certainly not IDEs; I heard his own version of emacs - micro emacs).

  • GNU Emacs

    Mirror of GNU Emacs

  • Tetris is a single 663 loc .el file. The only thing it uses on your computer is storage, ~19.8kb to be exact. Calling 19kb of storage bloat is stupid. Your font uses MUCH more storage and nobody calls fonts bloated even though you don't use 99% of characters. The .el files only get loaded ON EXECUTION. You can just delete them if you don't like them, nothing will happen.

  • nyxt

    Nyxt - the hacker's browser.

  • There is one program I know of which does provide sufficient ability to modify its keybinds and behavior at runtime, call functions, modify them, etc, it is even self-documenting (albeit with limitations if you want a nice display, as the documentation is still WIP): Nyxt. It's even possible to get it talking with Emacs through SWANK.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.
