Looking for light weight ways I could be notified when I need to update my services to fix failures or critical security issues (particularly for Matrix)

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/selfhosted

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • matrix-docker-ansible-deploy

🐳 Matrix (An open network for secure, decentralized communication) server setup using Ansible and Docker

For example, one of the services I run is a Matrix node, and with it the signal-matrix bridge, since I prefer using Signal through a Matrix client. I install and maintain it using matrix-docker-ansible-deploy. However, the signal-matrix bridge recently silently broke -- I wasn't receiving any messages, and it took me a little while to figure this out.

  • whats-up-docker

What's up Docker ( aka WUD ) gets you notified when a new version of your Docker Container is available.

I haven't tried it yet but this project aims to make updating docker containers a lot easier instead of just blindly trusting pull cronjobs or watchtower to work, apparently depending on the registry it can differentiate between minor/major updates and handle them differently: https://github.com/fmartinou/whats-up-docker

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.
