If you could not distro hop and were stuck using 1 distro forever, what would it be?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • bedrocklinux-userland

This tracks development for the things such as scripts and (defaults for) config files for Bedrock Linux

  • I’ve never used yast, let alone SUSE. But the idea of Bedrock Linux is to do such things. Only it seems no one uses SUSE, or Slackware for that matter. So support is nonexistent. Sounds like you’ve a job to do!

  • Chicago95

A rendition of everyone's favorite 1995 Microsoft operating system for Linux.

  • MX Linux / XFCE with the Chicago95 theme.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • linux

@superna9999's Linux kernel source fork for upstream development (by superna9999)

  • I don't like having to do major upgrades of my desktop distro every 12-18 months and I'm not a fan of rolling release distros either, so what I've settled on is an enterprise distro with extra repos/latest kernel.org stable kernel/proprietary Nvidia driver.

  • guix

Read-only mirror of GNU Guix — pull requests are ignored, see https://guix.gnu.org/en/manual/en/guix.html#Submitting-Patches instead (by guix-mirror)

  • More info: It is very much inspired by Nix pkg-manager and NixOS, but mostly redone.. Guix own description: https://guix.gnu.org/ Here's a few more arguments: https://systemcrafters.net/craft-your-system-with-guix/5-reasons-to-try-guix/ An example of a minimal OS program in 67 lines: https://git.rekahsoft.ca/rekahsoft/guix-config/commit/204a37a226d96757f2c098ba0cfac820dcc9facf r/GUIX and OC: https://guix.gnu.org/en/download/

  • almalinux.org

    almalinux.org official web site sources.

  • Never heard about AlmaLinux before. Just adding the link: https://almalinux.org/

  • void-packages

    The Void source packages collection

  • Just looking around: https://voidlinux.org/
