Programming language that compiles to clean C89 or C99?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on reddit.com/r/AskProgramming

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Build time-series-based applications quickly and at scale.
  • SonarLint - Clean code begins in your IDE with SonarLint
  • Zigi - Close all those tabs. Zigi will handle your updates.
  • Scout APM - Truly a developer’s best friend
  • llvm-cbe

resurrected LLVM "C Backend", with improvements

If you drop "easily" and "human" (/s) from your requirements list, then the C backend for LLVM might work. Then you can choose any programming language you want that has LLVM 10-compatible frontend.

  • Nim

Nim is a statically typed compiled systems programming language. It combines successful concepts from mature languages like Python, Ada and Modula. Its design focuses on efficiency, expressiveness, and elegance (in that order of priority).

Not quite what you are asking (I don’t think it generates human readable code), but I believe would be useful for your use case: https://nim-lang.org

  • InfluxDB

Build time-series-based applications quickly and at scale.. InfluxDB is the Time Series Data Platform where developers build real-time applications for analytics, IoT and cloud-native services in less time with less code.
