You can see the strong collaboration with Uno Platform as well to bringing WinUI to all platforms. Plus it seems clear WinUI is not just a flashy new thing, they converged in that direction for a few years already and offer ways for WPF/Winforms apps to start mixing WinUI3 in there.
It really depends on your requirements, last time I checked WinUI was not even included in Visual Studio installation. I use mostly https://avaloniaui.net/, it's modern UI framework similar to WPF or UWP but cross-platform and actively used and developed.
