I use fish as my default shell and for scripts, the shebang should take care of anything. Why would you say the default must be POSIX-compliant? Almost a year of daily driving fish and I haven't come across anything I need from say bash (except here docs ) but they are not a deal breaker for me. I like the built in "webserver" to add configurations and themes, it was a long time until I understood bash's PS1 enough to be able to meaningfully modify it
