Here is a thread talking about the new generators. The tl;dr is the old ones are in maintenance mode only, the new ones are meant to address some of the weaknesses of the old ones (of which there are many: cmake, cmake_paths, cmake_multi, cmake_find_package, and cmake_find_package_multi). In their current state, in my experience, the two new generators together(they fulfill different purposes, but work together) work better than all of the others in any combination.
