A web app for ranking computer science departments according to their research output in selective venues, and for finding active faculty across a wide range of areas.

The prestige of your school (especially the overall rankings) doesn’t really matter all that much to prospective CS employers. Just last year, I spoke with a guy I know who happens to be a FB/Meta recruiter. He said that FAANG/MANGA/Big N companies may invest more money promoting their internships and new grad positions at higher-ranking schools, but they don’t discriminate against applicants from lower ranking schools because the prestige of the school has no correlation to the skills and experience of the students. Getting a position at one of these companies is entirely dependent on your ability to do your job (which they determine by testing your abilities) and your ability to mesh with their team. If you want to stand out, blow them away with the projects you have on GitHub. You can have an ambitious overachiever from a low ranking state school who consistently grinds out mind-blowing projects in their spare time that can run circles around a slacker from a T10 institution who got into their prestigious school solely due to their parents’ connections and has done nothing of substance outside of their class projects. Save yourself time and money (we all know time is money) by focusing on your personal projects and resume development rather than killing yourself to get into an overinflated and overpriced school. When choosing which college to attend, unless your parents have money to burn, always choose the cheaper school. The only exception to this rule is if you plan to become a quant, but I don’t think Duke is a target school. If CS is your chosen field, US News isn’t always the best ranking system to go by.
