For 1080p/DVD's pretty much any optical drive will get the job done. For 4K discs, look into the suggestions in this MakeMKV forums thread. That leads into the software side of things, since you can use MakeMKV to copy the disc to your computer. Some people also use HandBrake or similar tools to compress the video, since 1080p discs can get over 30GB, and 4K discs easily reach the 60-70GB range. There are also automated system like Tdarr, or you could use FFmpeg directly if you like command line tools (and is what HandBrake/most tools run on top of).
