If I bought a domain name through WordPress.com is it actually mine?

Is this domain really mine, or if I stop using WordPress.com will it not be mine anymore? Is there an easy way to switch to WordPress.org without recreating this whole site? I tried to switch to Wordpress.org, but I didn't even see a place to design a website. Can I just delete WordPress and keep the domain and code the website using something else?
