I've been working on https://github.com/tersesystems/echopraxia-plusscala to make logging easier, let me know what you think.
The situations where logging is not handled as a side effect is when the program is explicitly handling IO, i.e. Odin, but that's the exception rather than the rule, when the logging API also handles the framework implementation.
