This is so frustrating to me as well. The only solution I found was to use a open source app released in github named MonitorControl. You have to scroll down to find a dmg file, or just hit command+F on the website and type ”dmg” to find it instantly. I don’t remember the setting this software used. There might be a possibility that you could add a shortcut to control monitor brightness/volume. Don’t know wheter this works for all the monitors out there.
